It is a pleasure to announce this unique concert of one of India’s premier Sitar maestros, Ustad Shujaat Khan, accompanied by Nihar Mehta on Tabla. Shujaat Khan is the son of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan, one of the great Sitar virtuoso’s of the 20th Century. It will be a rare treat to listen to this incredible musician in the intimate setting of the Salon de Musique of the Ali Akbar College in Basel. He will be accompanied by Harprit Singh, our assistant tabla teacher at the Ali Akbar College in Basel. Josh Feinberg ist ein junger und hochbegabter Sitar Spieler. Er wurde in den USA geboren und hat seine Studien sowohl im Jazz wie auch in der klassischen indischen Musik betrieben. Er hat Sitar am Ali Akbar College of Music in Kalifornien studiert. Nach dem Tod von Ali Akbar Khan in 2009 hat er seine Studien mit den Söhnen von Maestro Khan (Ashish Khan und Alam Khan) weitergeführt. May 24, 2013, 8 PM in the Salon de Musique of the Ali Akbar College Abir Singh Khangura, Apurba Mukherjee – Tabla will present an evening program of North Indian classical music. Abir Singh Khangura belongs to the musical lineage of his Father Prof. Mohan Singh Khangura, disciple of Pandit Dhruvatara Joshi of Agra Gharana and Pandit Asesh Bandopadhyay of Vishnupur Gharana and his Mother Smt Suchismita Singh. Born in Shantiniketan, Abir began his Esraj training from Sri Ranadhir Roy, disciple of Pandit Asesh Bandopadhyay. After the untimely demise of his guru, Abir continued with Sri Buddhadev Das of the same tradition. Later he had the good fortune to receive training from Dr. Sisirkana Dhar Chowdhury, disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan of the Maihar Gharana.
