Choudhury – Tabla, and Hares Khan – Harmonium will present a program of Indian classical and Sufi vocal music of North India. Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan ist der Sohn, Meisterschüler und Nachfolger des legendären, verstorbenen Altmeisters Ustad Salamat AIi Khan. Er repräsentiert die elfte Generation der Gesangstradition der Sham Chaurasia Gharana. Sankar P. Chowdhury – Tabla Solo, July 16, 2012

Sankar P. Chowdhury, born to a musical family in 1959, is one of India’s most respected tabla virtuosos and teachers. He is a disciple of the great master, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, a representative of the “Lucknow” gharana (school) of tabla playing. In addition to his concerts as an accompanist and soloist, Sankar spends two months each year in Basel, as a guest teacher at the Ali Akbar College of Music. In addition to the Tabla solo performance, Frank Fischer will also present a sarod recital, accompanied by Harprit Singh on Tabla. Frank Fischer is a performer and teacher of classical guitar and has also been studying sarod at the Ali Akbar College for a number of years. Concert with master bamboo flutist Ronu Majumdar

Sonntag, 11. April 2010 20.00 Uhr Grosser Saal der Musik-Akademie Basel Ronu Majumdar is one of India’s most virtuosic masters of the bansuri (bamboo flute). He began playing under the guidance of his father Dr. Bhanu Majumdar, late Lakshman Prasad Jaipurwale and finally the revered Vijay Raghav Rao. He was also fortunate to receive training from his grand guru Pandit Ravi Shankar. An inventive and powerful performer, Ronu Majumdar is firmly rooted in the Maihar gharana which has also given riseto to such musical legends as Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
