Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri Born in 1947 in Calcutta, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri received tabla training from early childhood. He was later trained in the Lucknow Gharana with Pandit Santosh Krishna Biswas and today is one of the best known tabla players of India. He is highly regarded both in solo performances as well as in accompanying some of India’s most distinguished musicians, including Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar. Swapan Chaudhuri is currently the Director of Percussion at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California, and also teaches during the annual seminars of the Ali Akbar College of Music in Basel, Switzerland. SANKAR P. CHOWDHURY. Sankar P. Chowdhury, born to a musical family in 1959, is one of India’s most respected tabla virtuosos and teachers. He is a disciple of the great master, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, a representative of the Lucknow Gharana (school) of tabla playing. In addition to his concerts as an accompanist and soloist, Sankar spends two months each year in Basel, as a guest teacher at the Ali Akbar College of Music. DANIEL BRADLEY. Daniel Bradley began his studies of the sitar in 1978 and worked with some of the most respected masters, including Nikhil Banerjee and Ali Akbar Khan. In recent years he also learned from Anapurna Devi, Ali Akbar Khan’s sister and one of the most distinguished teachers of India. In addition to giving sitar workshops at the seminar, Daniel also reserves some time to do repairs on sitars, sarods and tanpuras.
